Borrigni Atelier | Complete MTM Measurement Guide

Measurement Guide — Complete MTM

To guarantee a precise, refined fit for your Borrigni Atelier garment, follow each step with a flexible tailor’s tape. Wear close‑fitting underwear (or the intended base layer). Stand naturally, breathe normally, and avoid pulling the tape too tight.

Reference: Each measurement below has a number. Please refer to the numbered illustration to locate each point on the body.

Note: This guide includes all essential measurements for a complete made‑to‑measure commission. No critical dimension is missing.

Men — full measurement list (1–16)

primary measurements — required for every commission
Illustration for Shoulder width (1)

1. Shoulder width

From the end of one shoulder (where the arm meets the shoulder bone) to the other, measured across the back.

→ Best taken with a helper. Keep the tape straight and relaxed.
Illustration for Chest (2)

2. Chest

Around the fullest part of the chest, under the armpits, keeping tape parallel to the floor.

→ Arms relaxed at sides, normal breath. Tape should be snug but not compressing.
Illustration for Waist (3)

3. Waist

Natural waist — the narrowest point, typically just above the navel.

→ Stand upright, do not suck in. Keep tape level all the way around.
Illustration for Sleeve length (4)

4. Sleeve length

From the shoulder point (the same edge used for shoulder width) down the outside of the arm to the wrist bone.

→ Arm slightly bent at 90°; measure from shoulder seam to wrist prominence.
Illustration for Jacket length (5)

5. Jacket length

From the base of the neck (back collar seam) straight down to the desired hem.

→ Classic length ends around mid‑thumb or lower seat; indicate preference in notes.
Illustration for Trouser length Outseam (6)

6. Trouser length (Outseam)

From the top of the waistband (side seam) down along the outer leg to the bottom hem.

→ This is the total side length of trousers. Use it as main reference for full length.
secondary measurements — refine the silhouette
Illustration for Hip/Seat (7)

7. Hip / Seat

Around the widest part of the hips and buttocks, feet together.

→ Pass the tape over the fullest curve; essential for trouser drape.
Illustration for Inseam (8)

8. Inner leg (Inseam)

From the crotch seam down the inner leg to the ankle bone.

→ Stand with feet shoulder‑width apart. This is your true leg length for hemming.
Illustration for Thigh (9)

9. Thigh

Around the widest part of the upper thigh, about 2–3 inches (5–8 cm) below the crotch.

→ Critical for slim trousers, tapered fits, and riding comfort.
Illustration for Belly/Abdomen (10)

10. Belly / Abdomen

Around the fullest part of the abdomen (usually at navel level or slightly below).

Essential for non‑flat stomachs — ensures waistband sits flush without pulling or gaping.
Illustration for Neck (11)

11. Neck

Around the base of the neck, just below the Adam’s apple.

→ Used for shirt collars and jacket neckline harmony.
bespoke precision — bicep · wrist · calf · armhole · crotch length
Illustration for Bicep (12)

12. Bicep required

Around the fullest part of the upper arm, arm relaxed at the side.

→ Directly impacts jacket sleeve width and shirt arm comfort.
Illustration for Wrist (13)

13. Wrist required

Around the wrist bone, with hand relaxed.

→ Determines sleeve opening, cuff fit and watch clearance.
Illustration for Calf (14)

14. Calf required

Around the widest part of the calf muscle.

→ Essential for slim‑fit trousers, tapered jeans, and boots compatibility.
Illustration for Armhole (15)

15. Armhole (armscye) critical

Around the armpit, following the natural curve of the armhole seam — tape passes through armpit and over the shoulder point.

→ The #1 measurement for jacket/shirt mobility. Prevents tightness when raising arms.
Illustration for Total crotch length (16)

16. Total crotch length critical

From waistband center front, between the legs, to waistband center back.

→ Determines how trousers sit at the crotch. Without this, trousers may pull or sag. (Alternative: front rise + back rise)

How to measure correctly — atelier standards

  • Tool: Only a flexible, non‑stretch tape measure (sewing type). Paper or metal tape will cause errors.
  • No tape? Use a piece of string, mark the points, then measure the string with a rigid ruler.
  • Posture: Stand straight, weight equally distributed, arms relaxed. Do NOT puff chest or pull in stomach.
  • Fit philosophy: The tape should lie flat against skin/light clothing — firm but not digging in. You should be able to slide one finger under the tape.
  • Between sizes? Choose the larger size in our size chart. Our made‑to‑measure service will fine‑tune the rest during video consultation.
  • Outseam vs Inseam: Outseam (total side length) is your “trouser length” reference in the size table. Inseam is the inner leg used for final hemming. Provide both for best results.
  • Why we added #15 (armhole) and #16 (crotch length): These are the two silent killers of remote MTM fit. They ensure freedom of arm movement and proper crotch comfort without guesswork.
  • Abdomen (#10) is kept and emphasized — it's essential for clients with a fuller midsection; skip only if you have a flat, athletic waist.
  • After you submit your measurements, a personal sartorial advisor will schedule a 15‑min video session to verify critical points — complimentary with every commission.
